10 Must-Have Mindful and Accessible Teaching Tools


The last school year was eye-opening and overwhelming for educators.

The good news is the pandemic ignited a spark of innovation in the education system. From the chaos emerged tools that provide quality education in a post-2020 world. Education is changing and moving towards accessible resources made possible with technology. Educators are finding ways to make digital learning mindful and accessible across all learning environments. We never know when students might lose access to the physical classroom again, but they should never lose access to education. Here are ten great tools to help.

1. Meme Mood Boards



What is it: A great way to start class! It is a Google Slide Presentation containing memes expressing different moods.


Why you need it: Mindful Community Builder. Easy check-in to see how our students are doing. It makes you super cool :)



Who will benefit: Students feel seen. Teachers build connections.


Where/When to Use: Can be used in all learning environments. Just display on a smartboard or video presentation and ask students which (numbered) meme describes how they feel. They can type an answer in the chat, say in allowed, or hold up fingers.


2. Digital Textbook/Notebook Template


What is it: A Google Slides template (that you can easily convert to PowerPoint) with hyperlinks to create

a digital notebook. It can be used as a teacher-created textbook, student notebook, or interactive notebook.


Why you need it: Shareable with ANYONE: students, other teachers, students’ adults, etc. Giving access at any time with a device that connects to the internet. Teachers can add prerecorded video instructions to never lose access to learning. Students can watch instruction at their own pace.


Who will benefit: Everyone! Teachers don’t have to repeat themselves constantly- they can just play the video and make themselves their own assistant while bridging the learning gap AND use the same materials year to year. Students can learn at their own pace and hear instructions multiple times. They never have to lose access to learning if a student prevents them from coming to the physical classroom. A student’s adults can see what their students are learning to help their student.


Where/When to Use: All learning environments. Class time is spent watching pre-recorded instruction together, bridging the learning gap, building relationships, and interacting with learning.


3. Digital Assignment Tracker


What is it: A google sheet (that can convert to PowerPoint) shared with a student, their adults, and/or teacher where students track work and completion status for all their assignments.


Why you need it: When students update, all parties can see in real-time. Easy organization that links directly to content


Who will benefit: Students improve executive functioning skills, a communication tool for students and their adults.


Where/When to Use: Can be added to phone as an app icon, use daily as live document for in-person, hybrid, and/or virtual learning.



4. Daily Check-In Using the Wheel of Emotions




What is it: A google form that collects data on students’ self-identifyed emotions and basic needs as a daily check-in or exit ticket


Why you need it: Data that matters- it’s a way to really understand the needs of students and gives them a safe outlet to communicate needs


Who will benefit: Students feel seen, teachers have a starting point to identify ways to help students succeed.


Where/When to Use: Any learning environment with 1-on-1 devices

What is it: A beginning of the year getting to know you google slide worksheet that can easily convert to PowerPoint- or print to decorate the classroom
